Depending on situation you have to be both- practical and also sentimental at a given occasion. If there is a tragedy in the family or with friend then you should be sentimental other wise you would be considered as a heartless person. If you have a difference of openion with your children and if the matter is not of great concern then you have to be practical in accepting their point of view and agree with them.

Being sentimental is nice but basing decisions on practicality is the way to go. For example, you may still be in love with someone who is a "loser" and you know it, would you choose to be with that person based on sentiment or based on the fact that the loser doesn't have a job, no money in the bank, drinks like a fish and does drugs?

a good mix of both is probably the ideal answer. As for me, i wouldn't care if practicality flew out the window and all i had was a sweet sentimental in my arms all night long...

They each have their merits at their due time. There's a time to be practical and there's a time to be sentimental.

being practical doesn't give you happiness sometimes, sample? who will you choose? a rich man that can giv you a lot of money and you can buy everything you want but you don't love or a man whom you really love but he is poor? if you're going to be practical surely you will choose the rich man rather than the poor man but the question is are you going to be happy with the man that you don't love but can give you money? but if you are going to be sentimental you will choose the one you love that can give you happiness! remember money can't buy everything!

Being too sentimental isn't sturdy for self. Being too useful isn't sturdy for others. So, one must be sentimental with useful approval and useful with sentimental mind-set.
