I'm a white person. I'm trying to think of a costume for Halloween, and I've wanted to go as Lil Jon for a couple years now, and this year I can't think of anything else. I am NOT considering using makeup of any kind. Just dreads, grill, suit, hat, chain, etc... I'm not a racist person and I don't want to offend anyone (obviously or I wouldn't even be asking this), Lil Jon is a current pop icon whose look is very recognizable, and who I am a fan of. I'm not trying to be derogatory in any way.
There probably would not be any black people at the Halloween party, but I still wouldn't want to do anything deemed racist in general.

I don't think it would be derogatory at all. The costume sounds neat. Have fun at the party. :)

You should be commended for asking.

I remember once about ten years ago on Halloween, I ran into a guy with his face painted brown, an afro wig and a big gold medallion. I asked him what his costume was and he said " a black person". He couldn't understand why that would be offensive.

I think if you don't paint your face and your costume is good enough so that people would be able to tell that you are dressed as a famous celebrity, rather than a generic black person, it's fine. Oh, and you should yell "yeah, OK" alot like Dave Chappelle does. In fact, make that the answer to every question anyone asks you on halloween, that would be hilarious!

If you were wearing blackface, while being lil jon, that would be offensive, but since you're just dressing up as him, no one will get angry, matter of fact I think most people will just laugh at the costume, so get ready to bring out the YEAH'S OKAY!! WHHHATT?!! So that they don't think you're a creampuff.
