It depends on what you can afford. Places like WIndermere and Heathrow are a little on the $$$ side, but have great schools. Lake Mary has the best schools in FL. Altamonte and Maitland are great places to live with good schools. Also try Dr. Phillips, Winter Park... those are a great start.

I'd stay away from Sanford and Edgewater. Sanford is the farthest from Orlando and Edgewater isn't in the best area. College Park is close to Edgewater and is much nicer, but I don't think the schools are that great.

Check out the Orange County Public School site to evaluate the schools in the area. You're going to have to go to Seminole Co. for Lake Mary schools, and some in Altamonte.

I second Winter Garden, a little on the outskirts from Orlando, but a nice area. Celebration is extremely expensive, but the schools there are great!

It really depends on your ethnicity, Central Florida is an extremely racially divided area.
Here is the Orange County Public School's website that might help to give you a better idea. http://www.ocps.k12.fl.us/

Seminole County is the place to be near Orlando.

Longwood and Lake Mary have the best schools.

Sanford has too much crime, don't go there.

I know people who have lived in Sanford, FL which is in close proximity to Orlando and they love it. I've visited and it looks like a nice place.
