All depends on what country your travelling back from. If it's within the EU you can bring back as many as you want, just keep the receipts from the shop you bought them in. Or to be on the safe side you could open all the packets & remove one ciggy from each to prove you are not gonna sell them on (this answer is only relevant if your travelling buy plane). If you are coming back via a ferry port with a van full of fags then you'll have a lot of explaining to do. Good luck.

if they are all the same brand and you have an open packet on your person that should suffice, i was stopped a few years back with a suitcase full of rothmans royals coming back from Cyprus and ended up getting a £500 fine plus forfeiture of my cigs , but back then the limit was only 200 cigs or 10oz of tobacco since then it is a lot easier to bring cigs for personal use!
GOOD LUCK

So long as you're not trying to get half a million at a time AND do it regularly, it's up to them to prove that they're NOT for your personal use. I used to smoke 100+ a day, so a couple of 200-packs would mean nothing to me, and I always had trouble with the nasty bastards.

I thought you could only bring 200 back per person anyways, surely that wouldn't count as non-personal use because you wouldn't be making a load of profit if you sold them on?!

you can easily prove that the fags are for personal use, just call them by their individual names.

I'm assuming you just have to have less than whatever counts as being a cigarette dealer. You should ask customs directly.
