Because simply put, Karn was not cutting it. The ratings had started slipping for a while. He was not very appealing according to polls taken with women to them. Freemantle had done the To Tell The Truth Show when it was hosted by John O'Hurley and it did very well. So they decided what with the 30th anniversary of the show, to re-vamp the show some, do an entire new set, bring back some old style things, make the questions "edgier", and bring John on, who rates very well with most women, has decades of hosting experience and is charming and funny and quick witted. Richard had his five years and it was bye bye time. John seems to be doing a wonderful job so far.

I didn't see today's episode, but this does sound like something they'd do for his final episode. If so, then I'm glad they gave him a tasteful sendoff, since I was kinda getting the impression that he had been booted out of a job he really enjoyed against his will. An interview I read with Gaby Johnston seemed to indicate Karn was being replaced with O'Hurley just for the sake of changing things. And even though Karn had some annoying tendencies and lacked the wit and charm of Dawson and Combs, I would hardly say he was an incompetent host, and he seemed really into the game (unlike Louie). found onhttp://www.gsn.com/buzz/showthread.php?t=83306 number11
