First of all you must have a training design..what kind of workshop would you be giving. State the objectives and what will be the expectations of the participants. As for the theater workshop..you may need to teach the basic acting skills, then body movements, history of theater, kind of theater, dance and movements, parts of the stage, mask making..you can have a variety of activites..start with the basics..then maybe for their culminating activity, they present a play from what they have learn...BREAK A LEG!!

I was involed is a theater workshop through my High School as an instructor.
We had several activites rangeing from acting and improv stuff, to tech theater, set designing and building, costume and makeup, and the such. We also devoted halve the workshop to making a studnet ran production of a short five to ten minute script. It was quite fun. I would be more then happy to help if you need ideas.

I used to take theater courses in college. I took theater make-up--it was very fun but the supplies can be expensive. If you have help with money, the kids would love it I bet!
You can pick out a good play that the teens all want to perform and then have them learn the lines. I used to prompt at my former church and it was great! All the kids loved it. They did 'Pipin', but they didn't get to pick out the play. I think that the teens would get the most out of it if they all agreed on it. Some advice, though, nothing with a lot of swears or adult themes. Back to the theater make-up. It looks better under cameras and lights, but regular make-up is just as good since you're getting started. When you put on a play you can ask for suggested donations and that could help with money. Good luck!!
You need to make it fun because if you make the teens do things like 'work in the coal mines' then you're theater will fail!

Hey, I've been going to comedy improv shows in Utah, and I was thinking of getting this book put out by one of the comedy improv troupe's owners that has 101 comedy improv games for teens and children and even adults (who think young). I included the link below to get a copy yourself. If you are looking for more serious teen message theater with serious scripts, contact me because I have a couple from a place in southeastern Arizona that created a volunteer community outreach group with some government funds to keep their students away from drugs and alcohol and other harmful behaviors. The teenagers put on the dramatic presentations themselves and have some adult supervision to plan other activities. Or I can send you more information about the Arizona organization itself and let you know more of what my experience visiting them was like.

How exciting! I would love to do something like that.
Talk to lighting designers, set designers, etc. Do NOT just have acting classes; have tech classes for us!
Also, have a workshop that focuses on Shakespeare. Do research on his life and works, and have them perform scenes from it.
Have a final performance, letting each person show their skills--either as an actor or techie.
