If you need public assistance then by all means apply. It is there to help people who have hit rough times. People who are on assistance, though, need to be focusing every ounce of their energy to working out a way to get off of it. I'm deeply bothered by people who see public assistance as a means of not having to work. I know of a couple people who quit their jobs and applied for public assistance so they could be Stay-at-home moms. If you know you're going to be dependant on public aid, you need not be trying to conceive children. Also, I'm bothered by people who receive hundreds of dollars in assistance each month then go buy pets they can't afford to feed. Some people are stupid, immature, and ignorant and undeserving of the assistance they get. When my oldest daughter was first born, I needed public assistance. She was an unplanned pregnancy and her birth father waited until last-minute to decide he wasn't going to be a supportive person in her life. My time on the welfare list was short, however. I went to work immediately to get myself off of it. It was a bruise on my own ego that I couldn't support her by myself for a while. I can't imagine WANTING that.

I think every household should have to work. In single parent families the government should pay for a program for mass babysitting of these kids, while the mother works minimum 30 hours a week. If she still doesn't make a certain amount of money then the government should give food stamps and provide low income housing. But, these people, by recieving government assistance should not be allowed to own anything.
Family allowence is another story. It's a good thing. If there are families who work hard or even if only the husband works. The extra money should be for to help enhance the family life. To help encourage people to raise children properly. Rich people should pay extra taxes because their jobs are generally more pleasant and rich people usually come from rich parents.
I feel the family allowence is a good investment for tax money because the birthrate is declining and we need it to rise because of all the seniors.
I know this is harsh but. I feel life support is greatly abused. I feel that people over the age of 65 should only recieve medications to be more comfortable not to actually stop thier illnesses. Just because it costs too much to keep them and at this rate people will live to be 100 and live off the government half their lives. Which, if you think about it is no more a benefit to society than the sexually libral women who have six children to five different men and live off welfare.

Yes it does bother me. People abuse the system all the time. The government aide is not there to LIVE on....it is there to HELP you in a rough spot in your life until you can get back on your feet. And now days people are using it as their main income. I also think its ridiculous that all the foreigners can come into our country get grants(which they don't have to pay back) and start a business and make a good living, while Americans that were born and raised here can't get a dime. I also think affirmative action needs to be done with because you should not get the job because the company has to have a certain quota of black, white, Hispanic, asian....etc...people working for them. It should be the best man/woman for the job...regardless of race. I also think its ridiculous that a minority gets college money simply for being a minority. Come on people slavery is over and it's been over for quite sometime now. If anything blacks have more rights than any of the races now. I guess I kind of went off the subject but its easy to do, because the government is so screwed up right now. And I live in Houston so I am seeing a lot of this first hand from Katrina victims...Not all of them, but the majority of them are abusing the system.

Amen and well said. I am in the classification of working poor. I live in "housing" and still pay close to market vakue rent. I have a hell of a time keeping up on my bills and keeping my family of 5 up and running. Hard stuff YET no, you can't get assistance because your spouse is working. He makes just over the limit...how fair is that? The girl down the street has 3 kids, 3 daddies and sits on her *** and collects a welfare cheque. Why can't she work? Her kids are old enough! Not fair at all...it's all about the rich getting richer and the poor getting poorer.

You truly don't know enough on this subject to talk about it.
" The System" as you call it is in place for people that need it. Once upon a time it might have been easy to "work it", but many of the loop holes have been fixed. Actually, it is "fixed" so well, it doesn't work good enough for the people that need it.
You might should have asked a daddy with twelve hungry children how the system works to get food for them. You would have been surprised by his answer. Many American people have lost their jobs due to businesses moving their factories out of the country. People that had worked hard at one job for years went to work one day and found out they had to go stand in a very long line to look for jobs and food. They had nice homes, cars, and food and overnight they no longer could afford to keep it all.
You really don't know someone until you have walked in their shoes. Oh and by the way, a Cadillac is a gas hog. The next time you sing the blues, sing Volkswagon.

I agree with you, but their are some people out there who arent as fourtunate as you and I, Im speaking of the good people who have children from the same person and are having hardtimes and use it just to get on their feet again, I was in that boat after my first son due to complications I had when I was pregnant I had to use the system becuase I couldnt go back to work right away but as soon as I was able to I dropped everything I was getting and did it on my own and never went back on. I dont agree with women having 10 diffrent kids from 10 diffrent daddies and living off our tax money its very unfair Oh and by the way you posted to my question about wedlock, I dont plan on having children with my fiance I had my tubes tied after my youngest son and he has had a vasectomy so the only children in our future are my two boys and his 3 children. Thanks for your post!!!!

What is not fair is that corporations, who make record profits, pollute the earth, and exploit your fellow human beings get the biggest public handouts through "the system" of all. When I think of the subsidies airlines, oill companies, auto manufacturers make, and then see how much CEOs take home, while the average worker gets his pay cut or loses his job, it makes me much angrier than the schlub soaking the system for chump change.
