I highly recommend Aviane (I've been taking it for a few years now). It is a low dose hormone pill and the hormone level is constant throughout the month - so you don't get any wierd emotional side affects. I take 12 weeks of consecutive active pills - which prevents me from even getting my period - and prevents me from getting terrible mood swings and PMS. So basically I only get my period every 12 weeks (it's CHANGED MY LIFE!).
BTW - if you're wondering if it's safe to only have your period once every 12 weeks - studies have shown that it's actually healthier. Think of it this way - women are having more periods throughout their lifetime than ever before. We begin our periods at a younger age and have menapause later - plus women used to have more children (and in some developing countries they still do). ie. when a woman is pregnant she does not menstrate (hence having less periods). The more periods a woman has in her lifetime can lead to an increased risk of cancer and other ailments. So if you reduce the number of your periods - it's perfectly fine!

I wouldn't recommend any pill unless you have serious problems with your periods. They may protect from pregnancy, but not STDs which are becoming more rife than ever in the hetro-sexual under 25 year old group. Everyone of them have harmful side effects from ingesting artifical hormones.

i would suggest ortho cyclen. i started taking it for acne but i heard that it was the ortho TRI-cylen thats for acne. i ask my doctor why she just gave me ortho cyclen and she said that it has only one level of hormones in it instead of three which causes less mood swings (which is better for me cause im young, 17). it also lessens pms, shortens and lightens your period, and helps your skin. id recomend it!
