well effaced (she didn't tell me what %) she just said I was very tender and soft. The past day and a half I've had mild to strong contractions for about 3 hrs each time lasting anywhere from 30sec. to 60 sec. long and between 3 - 4 min. apart. I as well (not to get graphic) have had diaharrea as well. At the moment though I have no contractions to one an hr. if that. What's the deal? Has this happened to anyone? Personal experiences please. How much longer do you think I have until labor? What should I do? I've had 4 hrs. of sleep in 2 days! Is there anything I can do to speed the process? PLEASE HELP ALL (non-ignorant) SUGGESTIONS ARE GREATLY APPRECIATED! Thank you for your help!

If you feel you need to be checked out go to the hospital. I had no experience with having a baby and I let the stupid on-call doctor send me home the first time I went to the hospital. She wasn't too clear on what I should expect when it was time to go back & I BARELY made it to the hospital in time. From the time I walked through the front door of the hospital & my son was born was less than 45 minutes!
If you're unsure, GO! My son was 10 days early.

You are having Braxton-Hicks contractions. The contractions are getting the baby into position. When the real contractions start, you will know it. Walking is a great thing to do at this time. Walking causes the baby to move farther down which encourages labor. A side effect of walking is that it will tire you out to where you will be able to sleep better. With our thirde child, my wife had 23 hours of labor, and I'll bet she walked 20 miles during that time. With all of our children, her labor ranged from the 23 hours for our 3rd to 2 hours for our fifth. First was 12 hours, second was six hours, fourth was 3 hours.

Your body is getting ready for birth. The best thing you can do to speed the process is let it do this prep work on its own. Trying to speed things along will raise your stress level, which can slow or even stop the body's natural labor, which makes things harder on you and baby. Stress prevents labor as a sort of safety thing, to prevent ancient women from giving birth in dangerous situations. Now, we don't have so many situations where a wild animal or warrior will come along and find the baby and harm it, but the body still can shut down labor if we get too stressed-out. So the best way to speed things along is to mill around, relax any way you can, and follow your instincts.
Try to be glad for a nice slow, marathon-like start. It may make you feel impatient, but it usually suggests a nice, easy, quick end to labor, because your body is taking its sweet time getting everything just so, and getting ready to do the last hour or two of work.

If the contractions are going away, and are not getting closer & stronger then they are probably braxton-hicks... which is helping you gear up for the real thing! It sounds to me like you may have some signs that labor may be near... but these can go on for a few days to a week. I am due on the 20th and just as anxious as you! My suggestion is WALK WALK WALK, have some sex, and try to relax ... it's not going to be long!

It sounds like it is about time. You are having pre-labor contractions which is very normal. I would say you will be ready with in a weeks time. To move the process along get in the shower and let the water hit your breast, or play with them to get stimulated. This will help move the process. You can also try walking - this will help also.

is this yoru first child? Many women stop dialating for a while during the middle of their pre-labor stage. Start walking around and stuff that makes the proceess speed up a bit. I kept going back and forth to the hospital and walking and walking.. iwould be 4 cm for hours then 4.5 cm for another two then three....
If you ahve a breast pump start pumping your breast. that causes your uterus to contract as well.. and that first milk is the best milk

There are numerous herbs which can aid a speedy labour but these need to be prescribed by a qualified herbalist as some of them can be dangerous.
I have heard of people taking castor oil and having a hot curry to bring on a birth but not sure I would recommend these!
Best wishes.

I'd say you'll go into active labor any time now, no more than 2-3 days. Diarherra is a very good indicator.. ;-)
