Unfortunately, some guys get away with this for the simple reason that by the time you complain to the Wage Board, he can get a check cut and to you.
Check your contract or company policies which state not just WHEN checks are issued but HOW. Then tell him that you need for him to be consistent for your own budgeting and billing. Being off a few days can play havoc with your bill paying.

I think that is a problem with cash flow. Some times a small company or individual owned company gets strapped for cash and can be late on occasion. As long as you are notified ahead of time when that occurs, and it is not constant every week or every month or so, you can be forgiving. Every time every payday is a big problem with the company and needs to be reported to your state's Department of Labor The DOL(s) will take action if the employer is found to be in violation of state wage laws. If you are an Independent contractor, you will need to file suit for any unpaid wages or bounced checks. Note also that this may not be worth your while if the employer has made good on any bounced checks and related fees.

Don't know where your from, but check with the Labor relation's board. In my state, you must be paid on payday (in your case Friday) which Means if you don't work that day you should be able to pick it up. If you don't pick it up by close of business that day he is by law required to put it in the mail by Monday
( however if you request him to hold it until your next workday, he doesn't have to mail it on Monday).
Also, the Labor board will enforce this for you if you file a complaint.

Legally he can not withhold your pay for no reason. You have two options, get an attorney, which will cost you alot, or find another job. Its obvious the company is having trouble financially if he isn't paying you on time. So your days sound numbered there anyway.

Is he independant? His own boss or business? Then yes he can pretty much pay as it swings within reason. Contact your local labor board for specific rights for your area. Be me I would tell him either he get on a regular schedule or you will look for employment elswhere you cannot pay your bills on time this way. Could be no one ever complains directly to him. Are taxes being taken out then he has to pay on a regular schedule.

I wouldn't think so, that's withholding your pay unless you agree to have it mailed. He's just trying to keep the money in his account longer. Mail shouldn't take more than 3 days either.
