no its not harmful to the baby...and sometimes you will be scheduled to be induced that day or even the next day..depends on the doctors schedule...alot of the time it takes longer and hurts more....the pitocin caused contractions to be stonger and closer together

Its not harmful to the baby for you to get induced. Just because they say your baby is due on Friday , doesn't mean that , that is the actual due date. Just let baby come on his/her own. I was induced with my last pregnancy and my baby ended up being two weeks early . I am waiting until the baby is ready to come out this time. I started getting induced on a Monday or Tuesday. I didn't actually start going into labor until 12:30 something that Saturday Morning. My daughter was born on 12:38 pm on Saturday.

It is not harmful, but if you don't want it, you don't have to have it. 40 wks or not. I will tell you this, with an inductment, everything hurts a lot more than the regular birth would. And most inductments winde up in c-sections. Plus, you could be trying to amke the baby come sooner than he/ she is ready and that could be bad. My advice is try to stick it out for another week if you can, but if you feel inducing is what's best for you; then by all means do it and congratulations.

Get up and get moving. Do as much around the house as you can. Drink lots of water. They say that exercise and sex can help to bring on labor. If I were I would try everything between now and friday to go in to labor naturally. There is very little risk involved in induction but I prefer to go naturally. My first child was induced and my second came on her own. Going into labor on your own is easier and less stressful than being induced and a lot of time is goes faster. If the doctor says to be induced then do it. I would definately spend a lot of time walking to try and get things going naturally between now and friday.

firstly good luck with your new baby, the process of inducement is not harmful to the baby at all,its basically a drug introduced into your body that mirrors the drug the body creates by itself to help labour, your body may not be producing enough and therefore you need a little boost, if the baby was in any danger they would have taken you in right away and gave you a section(remove the baby from the womb)via a incinsion in your abdomen,a section is no problem and alot of rock and movie stars have this procedure by choice,
Trty and not to worry, i am sure the medical people you have will do an excellent job for both of you,,incidentally its a girl..
have many happy years with your daughter..

I was induced with my first at 40 wks 6 days. They claim it makes labor harder but I didn't know the difference because it was my first. I didn't think it was bad personally. I got to the hospital around 1pm and they started induction with Pitocin, later they "tried" to break my water but had to go back and do it again. I delieverd at 5:55 the next morning. It's different for each person.

How long it'd take will dependent on your body, how well it responds to the drugs. If your cervix is already softened, and/or dilated, then the process would go a little faster. If not, it could be a long ways.
Typically no harm would be done to the baby, they should be monitoring him closely, if there is a fetal distress, then they'll give you a emergency c-section.

My water broke 6 weeks early but I had no contractions so pitocin was the order of the day. It was 16.5 hours for me from the start of the drip until I delivered a perfect baby girl.
Be prepared for a fetal monitor to be strapped around you constantly...the only reason that I was allowed to get up was to go to the ladies room.

u can go up to 42 weeks if u want and its still ok. inducing just causes the contractions to come quicker and harder u can have the baby quick or the next day. dont worry its ok a lot of women do it.

It's like scheduling any other appt, you are seen in a timely manner. No,it is not harmful, actually it's safe for you and the baby as there are more complications from being over due.
