why do people continually ape the line "islam is a religion of peace"?

if i randomly open up the koran, the probability that i find a hateful intolerant verse is very high...i just read "the end of faith" by sam harris and in his book he quotes hateful bullsh*t from the koran and it takes up FIVE AND A HALF FULL PAGES! and that's just single sentences, not full passages.

my point is that ISLAM IS NOT A RELIGION OF PEACE. IT IS A RELIGION OF DEATH AND INTEROLANCE AND DESTRUCTION. we would all benefit if islam (and other monotheistic religions) were eliminated from the earth.

You could do the same thing with the Christian Bible. War, violence, intolerance, it's all there all over the place in the Bible as well.

When practiced as written Islam could be a very peacefull religion, though the Hindus have THE most peacefull official religion. Doesn't stop Hindus from occasionally rioting and killing Muslims. Often in retaliation for Muslim religious killings and riots.

In reality few Mosques subscribe to a peacefull version of Islam. In Africa a very very militant version is brewing. One that will leave Africa tied up in religious wars over much of the next century. In the Middle East a very corrupt group is using religious dogma to keep the masses in check. Very much like what Christianity did in the dark ages accross Europe. Unlike Europe there has been no awakening and throwing off the shackles of dogma. So the religion is perverted and misused to keep people in power. Think of people like Jim Baker in charge of whole nations with unlimited power and you have the typical Middle East nation. Kind of a scary thought aint it?

Ok first off I don't listen to ANYONE quoting verses without the book to check the context. Trust me I could give you verses to make Christanity look like an evil religion if I tried. That is where CONTEXT comes in. Oh and please tell me why we would be so much better if Pagans ran things? I notice you said "monotheistic" which says you think pagan religions are fine. Trust me they can be just as bad, they just have smaller numbers. Anyway people keep repeating the line to you because you appearently keep going around telling everyone how it is a hateful religion.

I have some people like that around me who try to believe what the terroists are saying .THAT they are peacefull people who do not believe in violence .
ITS like a catholic not believing in the body and blood of christ as being a symbol only and not the actual boody and blood of christ .
Not going to happen .People believe the most insane things in religion and this is what scares me most .
Islamics for the most part are lying to all of us when they say they want to live in peace .
IT is there fundimental believe that all those who are not with them must be destroyed but to admit this openly would have them removed from america .
SO they just hang out and wait for a monent to cause great trouble and say it is the will of allah .

Try actually reading the Koran, not biased commentators interpretations. Perhaps you will learn something. Islam was tolerating Christians, Jews, Hindus, Buddists and all other religions in their regions when the Christians were butchering each other because of different flavers of christianity and any or anything they deemed "not christian".
By the way, I am neither christian or islamic.

Muslim's justufication is that Islam came from "Salam" = peace . I don't know why they keep saying this .The true is that Islam comes from the word "Aslim/Istaslim"= surrender=give up. These are the final words mohamad used to end up his letters sent to the kings and rulers in his time "Aslim taslim" = surreneder you will be safe = and aslim here also means be muslim and only then you will be safe or alright.
So aslim in history of islam means be muslim and also surrender. Lately in the 90's I heard them using this word "peace" to discribe islam.

YOU, are absolutely correct.... Islam is an ideology of HATE.... it doesn't qualify as a "religion" in any sense of the word. And, if by some remote chance, it did manage to qualify..... it certainly would not be and could not be truthfully called, "a religion of peace"....

It is true that some Muslims are engaged in violence in the name of Islam. But you will have to differentiate between Islam and Muslims. You have to see Muslims in the light of Islam and not vice versa.
