your laptop should have a wireless card built in already...
there would be an icon in the bottom right toolbar with a picture of a computer with (( beside it, right click it and then click view all available networks...some people have a router that they leave the connection opened for anyone to use. I figure if I have a router why block it, I don't care if someone uses my signal. So if you get a signal then you can connect, you have to be within range of a router though. Some businesses set up wireless for the general public to use. Hope I've helped and good luck!

The wireless card you have build into your laptop is all you need to receive a wireless signal. Now you need to set up a wireless router to transmit the wireless signal.
Assuming you have high-speed internet (cable or dsl)
Purchase a wireless 802.11g router
Run a network cable from your cable or dsl modem to the download port on the back of the router
Run another network cable from the router to your laptop
Run the CD that came with your router to configure it (It is easy)
Once the router is up and talking to the laptop, go into the control panel and run the Wireless Network Wizard. This will set up a wireless connection between the router and the laptop
Once the wireless connection is set up, you will no longer need the cable between the router and the laptop. Just had to be there for the initial router setup
If you have any other PCs, you can connect them to the network either with a cable and running the Small Network set up in My Network Place, or if they have a wireless card by running the Wireless Network Wizard.

No, you do not need a PCI wireless card.
You may need this if you're trying to network a Desktop that doesn't have a wireless adapter.
But since you said your laptop came with a wireless card. Then all you really need is a wireless router.
Click link below for more info on some of the good home-used routers available out there.
