I would like to find out what my rights are at work. I want to know if I HAVE to be paid sick pay if I am off work with a pregnancy related illness or if it is the employers choice. Please can anyone let me know and send me any useful links about all my rights at work. Many Thanks

It is the law for them to pay you it is called FMLA and if you have to be out longer it is short term disability that happen to me I was put out of work in June and you can get the short term disabilty for 6 months good luck!!!!

Assuming you are entitled to paid sick leave then the fact it's due to a pregnancy-related illness is irrelevant. I had over a month off sick due to very bad morning sickness and just followed normal procedures which are to fill in your company's sick form and get a doctor's note if you are absent for over 7 days. On our form we have to declare the nature of the absence. I don't think they can withold sick pay because you are pregant - that would be sex discriminiation and as such, illegal. I'm talking about sick leave here - maternity leave is something different and doesn't apply until you are something like 26-29 weeks pregnant.

If you are ill you should get sick leave. It is not your pregnancy that is keeping you off it is the illness that is keeping you off! Pregnancy related or not. My friend has been off since she was 12 weeks pregnant because her pelvis split. she has been on sick leave and will go on to maternity leave 2 weeks before she is due. She is working for the DWP so it must be right by British law!!

Hope this helps, also talk to your employer and re-read your contract, there may be some clauses in it about pregnancy and illness.

hope you feel better soon x

It completely depends on the company you work for. The only law involved in this is FMLA (Family Medical Leave Act) which requires your employer to allow you to take off up 12 weeks leave when you or a immediate family member are on Medical Leave without losing your current position or rate of pay. There is not a law about being paid as far as I know. When I was on maternity leave with my kids I did not receive sick pay or leave pay. My company does not offer sick pay. Google FMLA for better info.

Well that depends on the company you work for. Do they OFFER sick pay? If they do then you would use that..but there's nothing set aside specifically for pregnancy...until later when you go on maternity leave. But just to cover your back, I would have a doctors note for everytime youre out sick....just in case your company decides to be jerks and say that youre taking off too many days.

they don't have to pay you anything. it all depends on whether you have earned enough money and if it is in your contract.
being pregnant isn't an illness so realistically they should pay your Statutory Maternity Pay - but again, they don't HAVE to.

If they do say they can't pay it, find out the reason why and have a look on the Internet for Acas. That site tells you information about employers and employees and rights at work. Helpline: 08457 474747. hope that helps. x

Dependate on your company...most companies you have to fill out paper work and get a note from your doctor saying the reason why you cannot work...you might not get paid the same as if you were actually working and you also could be denied by the company dependate on your reason...but if your but on bed rest then you are most likely able to get suplimental pay

If you have sick day or PTO, then you can take them. There is no company that HAVE TO pay you for maternity leave. Some big companies may give you a week or so for paid maternity leave. Majority don't. That's what short term disability insurance is for. Check with your company HR department.

If you have sick days saved up and you are sick due to your pregnancy I don't think they can deny you pay. A good friend of mines girlfriend just won a lawsuit against a large bank that fired her due to being pregnant and sick all the time.
Good luck

I am not sure where you live. I live in the state of ny. I am currently out on disabilty because i am having a problem with my cervix. If you are having a pregnacy releated illness, u should be able to go out on disabilty. Find out from your hr dept what there policy is regarding maternity leave. Find out asap so that way u can plan accordingly
