I go for the story, I don't care who is in it.
I would do a movie for $100,000 I don't think that's asking too much! Any takers? :)

Some of the high paying actors are in a caliber all their own. They are very good and know it and can afford to ask for the high amount of money. I am sure that there are new actors that are hired all the time, and they dont ask for the large salary but soon they will realize that they are just as good if not better than a seasoned actor and will start demanding more money. It is like a domino affect, it stops at the top and trickles down to the little guys.

There are several recent movies that I will NOT see because of the actor. Minority Report, Mission Impossible (1-3), War of the Worlds. There's a perfect example of what happens when you become too big for your britches. Stupid Cruise asked too much $$$ so he gets canned. At the same time he's making a fool of himself talking to the public about his way out beliefs and his popularity has dwindled.
The time is probably ripe right now for new actors to get their break if they would go in and under price these lousy actors like Tommy. Maybe I'll start heading to Hollyweird tomorrow!
Have a great day!!!

It's a delicate balance. Some movies have excellent stories, special effects, editing, cinematography, etc., but if you don't have a big-name actor in a movie like that you might not get the box-office draw. It's not a hard and fast rule because the Wachowski brothers made huge money with the "Matrix" series when Keanu Reeves was not a huge name, but in some cases having someone with a reputation acting in the movie, directing the movie, or producing the movie means big bucks. For example, a lot of women went to see "Titanic" because of Leonardo DiCaprio (I have NO IDEA what women see in him, but hey...) Before his meltdown and couch-hopping days, having the name Tom Cruise on the playbill meant a huge opening weekend, even if the movie was stinko. Come on..."Days of Thunder"?!?!! What a turd of a movie, yet it grossed major bucks because of a certain former heart-throb...

I think there are more people that you think that go for just the actor. Would you go watch a comedy staring a no-name actor or someone you know has made good funny movies in the past? A lot of movies rely on star factor.

Well, I do, if the subject or previews look interesting. I love Tom Hanks as an actor but I don't run to see every movie he's done, then again, I'm not an avid movie goer. I'd rather watch them in the comfort of my own home.
And I have to agree, that there is sinfully too much money being hoarded in Hollywood.

A HUGE number of people decide to go to movies based on what actors are in them. That 'star power' may be lame and ridiculous, but it's a big factor in drawing people to the box office.

Lots of people go to the movie just because of the actor...I would pay to see Morgan Freeman reading the alphabet for example. But I think pretty soon they'll have to come back down to earth if the movie theaters keep charging outrageous prices for tickets.

honestly... look at all the girls who saw Pirates because of Johnny Depp.
It all is a sort of ripple effect. If you pay some lesser known actor less money to be in your movie and he or she gains popularity, that actor will begin to demand more money to compete with all of the other overpaid actors. It's a viscous cycle.

Good question. There are many times I would have done movies for HALF of what the actors get paid.

Alot of actors have dedicated fans, hiring a "big name" star will draw more people to the box office.
