'Twas -let me see- October 1911. I traveled by rail from Troy, New York, to Boston, Massachusetts, on a matter of some considerable importance (mistress giving birth to child).

My first and last time was on the Amtrack in 1998 from New Orleans to Chicago. There were problems and the trip took 26 hours. I'll never do that again. However, I travel by Marta (Atlantas mass trasnsit train...not quite a subway) every couple of weeks, does that count?

By mini trains-- many times throughout my life, the last in 2000, I think, at Magic Kingdom, perhaps the same year at Trainland, and last year at Cypress Gardens.
By regular train-- the one and only time was 18 years ago, when I was ten, I went to Sebring to a park. It was wonderful and I'd love to do it again someday. Well, I'd love to travel by train, but I never did get to ride that tire swing...

It's actually quite nice. Much more relaxing compared to flying, just not as fast. Considering the security hassles at the airports now, for short haul trips, taking the train seems like a good alternative.

Does the New York Subway or the Montreal Metro count? I think I travelled on business several years ago by train.

I took the supertrain from Paris to London about 6 years ago. Other than that, most recently, I've taken the Metro trains in Barcelona, Spain last year.

In 2002 I took a trip with my friends to New York. The trip was great but... the train was not.
