there are so many animals out there they can't house all of them...i don't like it either but that is why we encourage spaying a neutering!!! i help by being a dog foster...i take in a dog that may otherwise have to be put down or go to the humane society or animal services...its a great thing to do!! i love it!! try it...

It is so sad when the facilities that have "HUMANE" in their title, have the compasion to kill. I consider them as the biggest hypocrites. There is nothing "humane" about death to an innocent animal. I am a volunteer at the Clark County Humane Society in Neillsville, Wi., which is a "No Kill" facility. I would love to tell you how to start a retirement shelter, but I am not exactly sure. You can check out info on the internet from the USHS (United States Humane Society), I am a member there also and have contacted them a couple times. There also is an organization in Utah called Best Friends. Maybe they can steer you in the right direction. Good Luck to you and I hope it becomes tangible for you!

The North Wood Co. Humane Soc. is not humane! It is a kill facility. They give the animals 1 week after the initial 48 hrs. to be adopted. Does that sound fair? They are open only limited hrs of the day and some peoples schedules do NOTaccomidate to their schedule. Some people shop longer for a car! I donated a case of science diet cat food and a 50 # bag of dog food for Christmas and never was so much thanked or even a smile. I got a grunt and "just put it over there". If I could afford to rescue every critter they receive...I would just for the "humanity" of it and those heartless people should be out of a job!

It really is quite cheap for you to adopt and animal from a shelter. If you had a puppy that you had neutered, vaccinated, plus any additional vet it would cost you hundreds. Most adoption fees are under $100. The biggest reason for these organizations to put these animals down, there is simply not enough homes for all of them. The more people that promote responsible breeding practices and dont purchase puppies from puppy shops, backyard breeders, or online puppies-r-us type of websites the better off we will be. Until then, until people stop just breeding their pets for unethical reasons...want the kids to see a birth, puppies are so cute, or even just because they are purebred, this problem will never get solved. What many people dont realize is that many purebreds do not have the right temperment or conformation to be in the reproductive gene pool.

I do believe that it is 'humane' to euthanize by lethal injection. The animals alternative is to become 'cage crazy', starve outside, or die of disease...I think a quick and peaceful end is much more compassionate.

if the animal is mean it can not be placed in a home so it must be destroyed. It cost alot to operate animal shelters with the cost of food, utilities, paying wages of the people who work there, medications the animals may need. The best way to help animals at the humane society is to adopt pets from there and to make sure you get your pets fixed to help stop unwanted pets. I am a owner of 3 beautiful dogs and they all have been fixed. It doesn't change the pets attitude cause my 3 are just as lovable and spoiled as they were before they were fixed

It's a SAD, SAD fact of life. Yes, there's another way - several, in fact.

1) Donate to "No Kill" rescue societies.
2) Volunteer for them too.
3) Offer to "foster" pets while the society finds a new home for them.
3) Always spay/neuter your pets. 10 million cats & dogs are euthanized every year because there simply aren't enough homes. :-(
4) Encourage others to do the above!

I suspect you're young, because of your spelling, but admire your desire to help these poor animals. Even if you don't have money to donate, volunteering to help in some way reduces their costs and can enable them to care for *more* animals.

Bless you.

you can help by altering the animals you already have, and taking very good care of your own.

Go to your local shelter and donate your time... often they have programs set up so you can help with monitary donations also.

Opening your own would be VERY costly and you would soon find that putting animals down is sometimes your only option (you can only house so many). Keep in mind of all the bills Food, Vet etc and the time you would have to invest.. I am not certain you could do it on your own to be honest.

*** As for "Centurion" - why are you eating animals from the humane society???? that is crazy ***

Best of luck - and it is good to hear you want to help =)

The humane society and other animal welfare orgs are innundated with animals because pople refuse to spay and neuter their pets. Unwanted litters get turned over to them. Also people get cute puppies and kittens and dispose of them on the streets when they dont want them anymore.

Until people all become responsible owners there will always be these problems.

Because they don't have room to keep them...
The humane society usually tries NOT to put them down,
they try to find homes for them...
It is usually the county animal shelter that puts most of them down.
I believe it would be admirable of you to open a private animal shelter. You could do it as a not for profit organization and take donations...

they have no other choice and they dont like to do that either but if the animal is un-adoptable or they just don't have the room for it,what can they do?if they had enough donations they'd have a bigger shelter for more aid to these animals but it's not there,if you open a retire home for them, eventually you'll see just what there up against, good luck and hope you do just that

in case you supply her up, they're going to carry on to her for a particular era of time, and if she isn't followed, then convinced. they're going to placed her down. She sounds truly unwell. i'm sorry to assert this, besides the undeniable fact that it would want to be more desirable proper for the kitten if she's placed down. in case you may have sufficient money to get her help, then she'll basically shop suffering. Take her to the humane society. i know it truly is not any longer truly proper to lie, yet in case you tell them she's a stay you took in, and he or she's having those issues, they're going to probably help signifiacntly with the costs of helping her. lets all do even though it took to assist our cats. i know i might want to.
