Why did they not figure out that the twin towers were going to be destroyed by islamic terrorists?

It is also one of the bigest, most populated cities in the world and so it does need to have a small army as the police force!

You have to ask the question why was security on internal US flights before 9/11 not as tight as they were every day in other countries?
I was shocked when I flew around the States and Australia before Sept 11th. Security was so lax compared to UK internal flights. So trusting!
Who is to blame for that trust?
The president who a few days before Sept 11Th decided it was not important to upgrade the security?
Was it the friendly American belief that no one would hurt Americans and America was the safest country in the world that should be blamed?
I do not like Bush but I have to say that no one had ever used planes as bombs before and how on earth was he meant to know what those evil people were planning?
I doubt very much that the NYPD had a 'terrorism squad' at that timeor an organised plan of what they must do if it happened. No one thought it COULD happen! Who would want bomb mainland USA?
We have had a highly trained bomb/terrorism squad in the UK for years. I think because we did not have the luxury of thinking we were safe.
Whilest we in the UK watched our TVs stunned at the news coming from New York our government moved to protect us.(most of us were so busy watching TV it went unnoticed) Our phones stopped working misteriously. (ALL PHONES!) We were told it was because too many calls were being made to New York. The internet crashed totally and our flights were grounded all within momments. I think our government wanted to stop all comunications between terrorists and pulled the plug. That comes from the top not the police. And we were prepaired because we have been hurt before.
On that terrible morning America woke up in the most awful way to reality.You were innocents to terrorism before that day. It was heartbreaking watching the USA realise that people want to hurt innocent good Americans for no good reason.
The police did their very best! They did not high jack anyone! They risked their lives that day for others over and over.
The budget was for crime not terrorism. Terrorism did not exist for America not on the scale it does now!
Please do not blame the police because if you do the Terrorists have won and we must never let that happen!

The 20th biggest army probably isn't that big. Which one is it? And it isn't the job of the NYPD to protect New York from external threats. That job falls on the federal government.
I know this and I'm not even American.

I don't think the police force thought the building would come down after all it had been targeted be 4 and it didn't come down.

because the new york poice force, are not interrested in foreign affairs, its not their job, it's the CIA;s or something, i dont know im not american,
