The nuclear reactors at research universities (only one college has one - Reed) are not nearly large enough for terrorists to do anything with and are of a particular design, such that if run too hot, they shut down automatically. They are far safer, even without terrorists, than your standard nuclear power plant.
You can read about the reactors' inherent safety here: http://triga.ga.com/45years.html

Judging from a story that ran on TV a couple months ago college reactors have no security, reporters actually walked into a couple unchallanged.

I hadn't thought about this one, but I bet you have a good point. Our universities all have biology, chemistry, and physics departments, most of which will contain all kinds of potential threats or weapons. If our government doesn't want to address shipping containers at the port, you can bet no real effort to secure our schools is being made.

Good point.
Still, we've been five years now and no repeat yet on American soil, even though I'm sure the bad guys have tried.

Yeah, I know. I have a nuke in my backyard and the only guard is my pet yellow lab.
I've requested government guards but no reply.
