I would like to have my mirena removed but the nurse told me to call back when I have my period b/c they can only remove it during that time.

What is that all about? Any thoughts?

the whole period thing isn't about lubrication (they could use gel if needed) or to make sure you're not pregnant (that's why you'd pee in a cup before they did it, and plus the dr will decide wether or not to remove it during pregnancy). the reason they would rather you be on your period is because that is when your cervix is open a little and it's easier that way. the cervix is sensitive and having that iud up against it being pulled out isn't confortable.

I am having my Mirena IUD removed tomorrow. My doctor said that it can help ease the discofort if you are on your period, but since most womens periods stop while the IUD is in place it can be removed at any time.

I haven't heard of that, I have Mirena and I don't have a period anymore which is what my doctor says is normal. I would call another doctor about it. When I asked about removing mine in the future my doctor and nurses acted like is was no big deal

That is so untrue, you can have your mirena removed at any time you wish to have it removed. Whoever that nurse is needs to go back and read the book on the mirena. My doctor stated to me that I could have my mirena removed whenever I was ready to.

No, it's not because they want to make sure you're not prego... It's because it's more comfortable for you to have it taken out while you're on your period because it provides a certain amount of "lubrication" so it's a little slippery. They told me this when I went to get mine put in... but you can have it taken out without your period. Try talking to your doctor directly, if possible, or just tell the nurse you don't care if it's a little more uncomfortable. Good luck!

THEY WANT TO BE CERTAIN THAT YOU ARE NOT PREGNANT BECAUSE IT CAN CAUSE HEMMORAGING IF THEY REMOVE IT DURING PREGNANCY. THAT IS WHY THEY WAIT UNTIL YOUR PERIOD IS ON.
