Whenever I go to Las Vegas, there are certain parts that have this horrendous smell. It's outside, and normally it's between hotels when you walk the strip, and sometimes the smell just comes up randomly! It's horrible when it smells AND it's scorching hot on your skin :(
Is the sewer beneath the city close to overflooding or something? WHAT IS THAT SMELL?! And though this has been going on for years, is the city trying to do something about it?

Wow. From urine, to trash in the alleys, to rotting corpses in the sewer drains...gosh, not only is Las Vegas glamorous, it's the source of the National GROSS Product!
I don't think the TMNT Turtles will EVER live in the Las Vegas sewers... :)

Downtown Las Vegas smells really bad!!
According to the local newspaper, Las Vegas Review-Journal, The smell is caused by "construction debris backed up in the storm drain system, trapping stagnating water and bits of rotting trash."
They know the source, but it still stinks...

I know what you're talking about. I used to have the same questions before moving here. The smell is from the sewer system beneath the strip. The water is in the recycling process and that's what the smell is. Enjoy!

It's more than likely the sewer system. But if you're walking past an alley it could be urine or trash : )

I think I read in the Times a while back Vegas has a public urination problem.

there are parts in every big city that stink... the strip is a very small part of vegas, venture off a little and you'll find it not only doesn't stink... most of it is much prettier than the strip, there are also casinos off the strip so its not like you'd be giving that up either

Most likely for the same reason New Orleans Stinks.. Alcohol and Vomit !!! People urinating on the streets and in the alley ways..

Most of it is restaurant garbage sitting around in the heat behind all the hotels and casinos. Some of it may be dead homeless people rotting in the storm drains, I've heard...

If you think Vegas stinks, please don't ever come down to the French Quarter. Vegas smells like Heaven compared to Bourbon on a Saturday night!

grease traps that burp from kitchens. we dont let grease go down drains . so we trap it in a tank & remove it by truck. in summer is when you smell this because the ground gets hot . we dont smell!
