To quote Apple's specs for iPods- "Song capacity is based on 4 minutes per song and 128-Kbps AAC encoding".

They figure about 240 songs per Gig, so 240x80 would give you about 19,200 songs. At about 15 songs per CD, this would be about 1,280 CDs worth.

KB = Kilobytes
MB = Megabytes
GB = Gigabytes

80 GB = 81,920 MB = 83,886,080 KB = 85,899,345,920 Bytes

A high quality mp3 (320 bitrate and about 4 minutes long) would rougly be around 10 MB, more or less.

On average, an mp3 would be around 7 MB which is equivalent to 7,168 KB. If this is true, then you can store approximately 11,703 songs on a 80 GB hard drive.

I suppose you're talking about MP3's here. The average MP3 size for a 5 minute song @ 128 Kbps is ~ 5 MB.

An 8- gig HDD will show you 75/76 gig empty space (there is space taken up by OS processes.) So we are talking about 15000 songs give or take.

They told me it is about 330 songs for 1 Gig. So 80 Gigs, by using this as a standard, is about 26,400.

depends on the length and format.

its a bit like asking how long your ipod or mobile phone battery will last, it all depends how many tímes you push the buttons, make/receive call or send texts.

around 25,000 mp3 would be a ball park figure.

if you are storing at 128kbps
then it will be approx 80 into 1000 minutes
thats 80,000 minutes

now if u store it at 256 - 40,000 min

that means 1mb =1 min at 128 kbps

If you guess that the average song is about 5 MB in size, then I would say about 16,384. (Since theres 1024 MB in a GB.)
