Good Question! I hate being called "Bob" which is common in the industry I work in (metal trades). I can even tell them I go by Robert and they will still call me bob.

Yeah I don't get it either. My husband comes from a third generation of Robert. His grandpa was Robert, his dad is Bob, and he decided to be Rob. He used to be Robbie when he was little. Maybe it is to distinguish yourself from the others. Robert is very common name.

I think when they were writing their name people looking at it just shortened it to Bob thinking the R a B.
