It is based on the Disney movie "Cinderella." In the movie Cinderella is forced into submission by powerful women who have no men in their life (making powerful women look evil, physically ugly and man-haters). She must dress horribly, do menial labor and be at the mercy of someone in power. Until the day she is transformed into the beauty of the ball (which also implies that if you aren't beautiful you will not receive attention from men) and catches the eye of a prince who saves her from this life. The irony being...she is switching one dependent lifestyle for another one but it appears to be a "fairy tale" because if she has the love of a man...she is better than she was before even though her place on the rung is still the same.
This idea is that women are dependent by their very nature and must always be taken care of by someone other than themselves. If they do have the ability to care for themselves they are generally cold-hearted, ugly and without a man.

The Cinderella Complex is described as an unconscious desire to be taken care of by others, based primarily on a fear of being independent. It nearly always occurs in women. The complex is said to become more apparent as women grow older.

This complex is named after the fairy tale character Cinderella, popularized by the Disney movie of the same name. It is based on the idea of women that the story portrays, as being beautiful, graceful and polite but who cannot be strong independent characters themselves, and who must be rescued by an outside force, usually a man (e.g. the Prince). Any strong female characters who do have power are seen as wicked and nefarious (e.g. the stepmother).

Who was Cinderella? A beautiful woman in a housefull of people who didn't appreciate her and took advantage of her. She posessed grace and a beautiful spirit... she was kind and loving.
Yet she was forced to live in poverty and cruelty for the amusement and use of others.. Until the day she broke free.. and found a man to love her.. and appreciate who she was and what she did..
That's cinderella complex..

I would have guessed it's when your stuck in the house and you have to sweep, clean, mop, vaccumm, do laundry, mow the lawn, cook three times a day, do dishes, shopping, driving for a demanding family who doesn't show any appreciation. And then you wouldn't have any time for yourself. But I think Shelly is the one who is right!
