I have visited Vietnam (after a long time being away) three times in the last six years. It is a unique, intriguing and beautiful place to visit. For once in your lifetime, you should spend around one to two weeks visiting Vietnam, not just the major cities but the little corners that make the country so unique.
For me, I'll go back again and again, to know more about the country, its people, its culture, and its ever changing life. Each time before my trip, I'd learn more about the place via the internet, e.g. search at Yahoo!.

I would love to go to Vietnam someday. My best friend is Vietnamese and from hanging out at her house and stuff from the last 2 & 1/2 years or so, I have learned sooo much about VN culture. I would rather find info about it from first hand experience of going there rather than looking in books or the internet. I would love to know more about Vietnamese culture! I love foreign languages and cultures and want to travel around the world someday! I love the VN style of dress. My friend went to VN to visit her grandma last summer and she got all these awesome clothes there. I went to a Tet festival once and it was really cool! Chuc mung nam moi!

No, I haven't been to VN; but yes, I would like to go someday. I would love to travel around the world. I would prefer to find information about VN through the internet. It's more accessible and quicker to find stuff than in books.

Vietnam (vee-et-nahm, vee-et-nam)
Republic in Southeast Asia, bordered by Cambodia and Laos to the west, China to the north, and the South China Sea (an arm of the Pacific Ocean) to the east and south.
# Vietnam was under the control of France from the second half of the nineteenth century until World War II, when it was occupied by the Japanese. The country became an autonomous state in 1946. France's attempts to reassert control resulted in the French Indochina War (1946-1954), in which the French were defeated.
# The Geneva Conference of 1954 divided Vietnam into North Vietnam, controlled by communists, and South Vietnam, controlled by noncommunists.
# In the Vietnam War of 1954-1975, South Vietnam, which was aided by the United States, fought communist insurgents, who were aided by North Vietnam. The war ended when the communists overran the south in 1975. The country was reunified in 1976.
# American involvement in the Vietnam War was strongly protested in the United States.
# Great numbers of Vietnamese refugees, known as boat people, fled the country in the aftermath of the war.
# Between 1978 and 1979, Vietnam invaded Cambodia and installed a puppet government.

I have not been there yet, but I will soon. My bf was adopted from Vietnam when he was a baby and has never had a chance to go back and see it. We want to maybe plan our wedding somewhere in asia, but we are just starting to make those plans.
