For example, the supposed son who called his mother (and used his full name, asking her if she believed him...) - how was that call recorded? I make cell phone calls every day, and none of them are recorded in thin air. I'm sure the mother wasn't like, "oh, you're in grave danger? Let me get my tape recorder so I can record our conversation."

This seems like an obvious question, but I hadn't even thought about it until now, nor have I heard anyone else ask/answer it.

Most of the answers above are pretty good I just want to add I can record a conversation on my cell or home phone with the push of a button, some people I know do this automatically cause when they don't they get screwed by someone. I am not saying that is what happened, but calls being recorded is not a new invention to most of us. I never heard anyone say any of the calls from United 93 were recorded either though.

This is a common mistake...those calls were not made by personal cell phones, flight 93 was equipped with in flight phones in the head rest of the seat in front of each passenger. When calling from these phones you can bill your credit card or phone card.

When faced with DEATH most people tend to change their behavior patterns...kinda makes sense huh

The only recorded calls I know of are those that were answered by answering machines or voicemail or the actual 911 calls. The rest were not recorded, but were related to media by the people who received those calls.
