He is 100% a Sunni muslim. Saddam never liked him nor vice versa because of difference in ideology. Saddam was happy with his dictatorship style while Osama wants radical Islam to prevail like Taliban style of governance.
Shia Muslims tens to be ruled by religious mullahs like Iran.
Sunnis all over are ruled by dictators or Kings like Saudi Arabia, Pakistan, Syria, Jordan, etc.
There is a sect amongst Sunnis called Wahabi sect in Saudi Arabia which strongly promoted hatred of non-muslims and prevail by force to promote their radical agenda.
And that sect is funded and tolerated by Saudi government and is the main source of Islamic terrorists allover the world. Osama happens to belong to that happy family.
