It's helped me greatly to pay rent and get some of my overdue bills paid while I've been out of work for a few months. Plus, even though you will eventually have to pay it back, it's an investment in your future since going to classes will help you get a better job and more money.

Student loans are to help people go to school, so if you aren't currently a student, you are not eligible. If you are a student, but have been paying your tuition in some other way, they calculate your need and will give you a loan to meet that. While it is intended for tuition, there are no checks on how you use it. I have known students who invest their loan money in higher-interest investments and actually finish college with more money than they had before (bad idea, because if you lose money, you are responsible for repaying both the debt and the loan). The point is, if your school says you need help on tuition, they will cut you a check in time to pay it, and you can use that check on any expenses you need, as long as you stay in school.

You can take a loan out at a bank for school. They don't know what you use the money for. But if you take a loan out for school you have to use that money for your classes and books. Hence the word school that comes before loan. A lot of times the school will pay out the unused amount of the loan to the student halfway through the first semester. I had one and I was paid the two hundred of it that I did not use.

Yes Student Loans can be used for anything you dont have to tell the LEA or anybody what the purpose is for. Mine was used on a car, and I am not due to repay it back until I earn £15k or over. Take it.
