In the last 6 months I have found that if I try to sleep on my left side, I get a very uncomfortable feeling and then sometimes a really shooting pain around my left chest area (but not what I would have thought was my heart). I am 30 years old, and used to smoke until 1 year ago. I have no problems sleeping on my right or back. Does anyone have any experience of this, or could anyone suggest what it might be. I haven't seen my doctor because it's not an issue all the time, only when I try to sleep on my left side. Thanks.

I think you should talk with your doc about this one. It might be nothing....but it sounds like it could be something. I can tell you that lying on your left side puts pressure on your heart and makes it have to work a little harder to pump the blood. Another thing that comes to mind is sometimes when your stomach is upset or still processing food it can be uncomfortable to lay on your left side. Simply put...laying on your right side help promote emptying of the stomach.

If its something worth gripping about....its worth a trip to the doc to get it seen about. You don't have to make a special trip. Talk with him about it when you get your yearly exam done. If you have not been doing that....then now is a great time to start. Hope this helps.

I can't offer an answer but can tell you I have the same problem. I love sleeping on my left side! I will go to the Doctor and ask. I am 31 and 2 years ago was a social smoker. Good luck! If I find anything, I will post it.

sounds like you may have injured a rib on your left side..takes for ever for ribs to heal..if you ever go see a dr. may want to get an x-ray and see if it was fractured ...even a slight hair line will give you pain months later.
