Feeman is right and the website he put there tells you how to eat sushi properly and why it is not right to mix wasabi in soy sauce.
I have a Japanese etiquette book tells the same.
If I were you, I would give Feeman 10 points.

Your question is somewhat complicated. The chef informed you that some products do not get dipped in soy sauce... yet i do not how that comprises wasabi right away. besides, that's favourite prepare to blend both and is thoroughly proper in even the preferable eating places. eating wasabi right away should be very unsightly, so blending it into the soy sauce receives both condiments on the food in an frivolously disbursed way. continually initiate mild on the wasabi because that's totally quite spiced, and upload more beneficial to flavor until eventually you get on your required warmth aspect. For me, even as the blend receives lighter in colour yet continues to be very runny, that's strong to pass. just about continually, you'll acquire more beneficial wasabi than you opt to blend in, so that you'll have more beneficial in case you opt to positioned it on food through itself. yet, just about no one does. i visit in worry-free words imagine of one variety of sushi that i do not dip and that's is called unagi maki, it really is octopus it really is already drizzled with a spread of warm temperature, semi-sweet sauce. There probable are many more beneficial that i have not tried that do not get dipped. As for the different sushi novices studying, the purple stuff on the plate is ginger and is meant to be eaten one at a time between each and every few products of sushi/sashimi as a palate purifier and to counteract the saltiness of the meal.

It's not rude, just not proper. You should put wasabi on your sushi, dip it in soy sauce. Do not dip the rice part, if eating nigiri style, but instead dip the fish on the soy. By the way, it's Japanese food not Jap food for that poorly informed guy who answered first.

This is a common practice in the US, but it's never done in Japan.
You should only dip your sushi in soy sauce.
If you'd like more wasabi, ask the sushi chef to place more wasabi underneath the fish when they're making the sushi.

Geez, I hope not. I do it all the time. I was in Osaka last year and saw people in the restaraunts where I ate mixing them all the time. Now, I did not go to any 5 star establishments, though.

I thought that's the general idea. Dry wasabi doesn't stick to sushi/sashimi quite as well.

I am not sure, but i have tried for my fist time some Mesabi peas just the other day and i can tell you that soy sauce on them would not be that good, that's for sure. I would not mix them at all..

If you are paying you should be able to mix the sauces together if that is what you like. I'm sure it tastes delicious.
