It depends on what type of degree you are getting. It also depends on what you want to do after you graduate.

Are you trying to get into graduate school or medical school or law school? If so, then you need to realize that you will not make it there unless you work your butt off. You are competing with some very serious students to get into those kinds of schools so you need to be at the top of your game. Otherwise, you obviously don't want it bad enough. If you got off to a bad start, don't think you can't catch up. Grad schools look for students who improve themselves.

If you are just trying to get a degree in say business or something like that and not go any further with school then it doesn't matter if your grades are mediocre. You can begin a job in a company at entry-level and work your way up from there. The best thing to do in this situation is to set up some good connections by doing internships and things like that instead of trying to be at the top of your class.

Either way, just know that if you totally fail out, then you'll probably be working at McDonalds the rest of your life, and that should be motivation enough.

I quit college and worked, much better education. I own my business at 30 and I have 4 people with college degrees working for me. College is for those who can't figure it out on their own and are willing to dig themselves in 40,000 worth of debt or more to be taught life lessons at a snails pace. Talk to a few recent graduates and ask yourself if it is worth 40k to sound that stupid. Buy some books, learn what you need and get on with life.

I'm in college too so I know how hard it is. What you might want to do is work a few hours each week in a really lame fast food job.
I work in a fast food job to pay my college bills and I hate it. My motivation to do well in school is to get out of t he fast food industry and never have to live that life.

Pay for your own tuition. I goofed off when my parents were paying for everything. They got tired of wasting all of the money and made me get a full time job to pay for it.

quit college and try to support yourself without any skills.
usually that works and when folks go back they are very motivated.
also earn the money for your college education yourself
instead of your parents of financial aid. that helps a lot, too.
you are not ready and not motivated.
stop college now. you're wasting someone's money.
start back when you know the value of what you're getting.
