1. Zooming past people at bus stops without stopping to let anyone on or off.

2. Pretending you can't hear people knocking on the door when you stop at traffic lights just inches away from a bus stop.

3. Telling people to go and get the right change before they can board, waiting til they're almost back to the bus, then setting off without them.

4. Setting off in a violent jerky motion just as an old lady has almost made it to her seat.

5. Not stopping at all when people press the bell, then playing dumb when challenged about it, even though five people pressed the bell.

I have experienced or witnessed all of the above.

Oooh! I've got a good one. Back in the day (Right after "Jaws" came out), my friend was a tour bus driver on Martha's Vineyard. When we visited, we took a tour and listened to him LIE out is A** about who lived where and such! It was hilarious. He got PAID to make up stories about celebrities who lived there in summer (I think the only REAL ones he mentioned were Carly Simon and Walter Cronkite! lol!) ...

WHen I asked him how much of it was true: he said "About 20-30%"...and then I asked WHY he lied and his response was: People don't wanna hear that some lame jerk nobody knows lives in that mansion..they wanna hear about STARS! SO I give it to 'em and I get better tips and nobody's the worse."

After much pressuring, I DID get him to divulge which were the lies and which were not.

Still he was a whacko! He drove groups to places like "Atlantic City". Once, I happened to grab a bus of his from New Jersey to Mass. and he drove like an INSANE person.

My advice: watch out for all bus drivers everywhere! They're like deranged sea captains without the waves....

If you enjoy driving cars... buses can be called a type of car, right? only that the size is big.... but I would prefer to be a taxi drive.... I think the bus driver feels very stressed since he has to control a big vehicle that has alot of people inside... could take all the responsibility if something happens...

you know what really annoys me about bus drivers.......(and my dad owns a coach company so i have knowledge of this) Not only are bus drivers really miserable...it annoys me beyond all belief when you are behind them and they have pulled up on the side of the road to let a passenger get off....now most people..most normal people check their mirrors to see if there is anything coming behind them..if there isn't they can pull out safely....i hate it when they just pull out anyway...i mean do they check the mirrors.

I was driving to work last week and this bus just pulled out from the side of the road while this car was over taking it..the bus just decided to pull out and there was something coming the other way....it was lucky there wasn't a smash.

Judging by the mood of most of the bus drivers I've encountered, I'd say it must be an awful job.

not much walking. you get to meet lots of people.
you are helping save the environment. you can work
different shifts. it pays ok. it is pretty stable.
it doesn't require lots of calculus or college training.
you don't have to decide what to wear every day.
just put on the uniform.
it is exciting because you never know what you will run into.
