First, some would argue that the truth is not an absolute. When George W Bush says he 'believes' Saddam and Iraq were credible threats to US security. He believes this based on the information he has been given and has chosen to believe. To him, this is TRUE, and not a lie, or misrepresentation, or whatever.

Second, many would argue that sometimes, for the greater good, it is important to lie. Many religions and governments have a rule, sometimes written, sometimes not, that this is acceptable, that the 'ends justify the means'. For example, I tell my daughter the "shot the doctor is about to give you isn't going to hurt", even though I know it likely will hurt... is that a lie? Or, is it more important that she get the shot? Governments feel the same way... "to make the country a safer place I must do X, but to do X I must violate the law, so I will lie about X because it is for the greater good".

Ask the US government about Area 51 and u shall know all the ballads of honesty. LOL

vvv Just like there's no substitute to hardwork, there is no substitute to Honesty. Lie has short-term significance while Honesty has long-term gains. If u still think a bit of lies, here and there are helpful, may God save "his" Angel. :P

They're control. Morals don't help control. It helps truth, yes. But they're looking for keeping control, Not keeping truth. If that means we're lied to so be it.

To quote Jack Nicholson in "A Few Good Men." "Truth, you can't handle the truth." Most people are happy just living their simple little lives and don't want to know all the cold, hard facts. That is why we HAVE governments. Some, like the US, are better than others. That's all.

Better still, why do no humans on this planet employ it. To thine own self be true, yet we all lie, sooner or later. Isn't that a shame for a species which calls itself superior, and evolved. Governments are made of men and women, controlling other men and women, and of course those in control have to lie to those they control to maintain control.

Honesty is the best policy however, not everyone wants to hear the truth, maybe this is why our governments dont employ it......

That is a great question. Governments are groups of people, and people in general are liars. They are in their positions because they won the Lying Championships (every 2 years in America!)

Because the people who keep them in power can't take honesty even a taste of it. When faced with honesty they ignore it completely or change it so its acceptable.
