As some have already stated, start with something you enjoy...if you can. If you are in a situation where you are required to take some classes that you just cannot abide, you have a much greater challenge. There are some things you can do to make meeting that challenge a bit easier (never easy, but easier).

1. Put yourself in your instructor/teacher's mind. Ask yourself, "What does he/she think is important to know/remember in this class?" Then study those parts of the class with additional time and zeal. You cannot skip all the other things, but you can spend less time on them and more time on the things you think the teacher believes is most important.

You can often tell what a teacher thinks is important because that's what he/she will spend more time in class on. That's the part of each lesson that the teacher will cover in more detail.

2. Work out the best way for you to capture the information your teacher is sharing during class. You may need to experiment here to work this out for yourself.

You will have to take notes, but the issue is...how many notes and when during class. Each time you write, you are taking your attention off what the teacher is saying. Each time you listen, you are not taking notes. So the fewer notes, the better; but what you do write has to capture (in some sort of shorthand) the important things you want to recall later, after class.

Sit in front of the classroom. It is far easier to pay attention in front rather than in back. It is far easier to hear and see what the instructor is saying and writing in front. Make the note taking easier by sitting up front.

3. Highlight or underline those things in your textbooks you want to study before the next exam.

In public schools, this may be disallowed; if you do highlight, you may be fined. So you have to decide for yourself...is it worth a fiine to get better grades? In college, where you buy your own textbooks, this is no problem. But, beware, highlight just the important things; if you end up highlighting everything, you have really highlighted nothing...you end up rereading the whole text, which is counter productive.

4. Finally, as you study for exams (using your notes and highlights), study your material from a variety of perspectives. Look at variations to the facts; a really tough teacher will do this and ask you one or more variations you did not study in class.

This is not unfair. What the teacher is doing when he/she asks you a question that is not specifically related to what was shared in lectures, he/she is trying to fiind out just how well do you understand the material. If you really understand it, you will be able to deduce what the answer is from the material given in class or your textbooks. (The ability to deduce answers, rather than just regurgitate what the instructor said, is emphasized more at the university rather than high school level.)

Pick out your favorite subject and then, instead of watching the tele in the evening, read a book on it. It doesn't matter what this subject is, as long as you love it. It shall:

1. Improve your knowledge on the subject which you find fun.
2. Iimprove your reading skills, which is paramount to learning.
3. Increase your vocabulary and your writing skills.
4. Improve your study habits.
5. Finally, if you have to goto the library to get these books, it will also familiarize you more with the library, which is so important.

Hope this helps! Good luck!

We tend to be better at learning about things that we are interested in. So, start with something that interests you. It really does not matter what it is. Learn everything that you can about it. While you are learning, think about how you are going about obtaining information. Think about how the media that you are using and the presentation methods determine how quickly and easily you learn. Think about the media and the methods that you like best. This will help you to decide how you learn and what methods you find easiest and most pleasurable.
Now apply these methods to learning other things, but continue to think about how you are learning and what methods best suite you.
Never leave a question un-answered, keep trying to track down an answer no matter how long it takes. Try to find answers for yourself rather than asking and expecting someone else to come up with a ready packaged answer. This will give you more confidence in your ability to learn rather than to be taught.

Put more effort. Or better do something which you really like. You may be weak in studies, but strong in something else. Concentrate on your strength. And as far your studies is concerned if you really dont like jus try passing every course.

Why do you have to improve your grades? Maybe it's not your thing. Think what you want to do and don't let your parents, friends or society say at what you should be good at.

When you discover what YOU really want, you won't have any difficulties learning it.
