Dust doesn't serve any purpose, it is an accumulation of small particles that drop from people, animals, and other items. In fact dust is quite bad in many cases, causing lung disease (in very high dusty areas) and can cause electrical failure or fires.

It doesn't really serve ANY purpose....it's just the natural result of things bumping into each other, and tiny pieces breaking off due to those collisions.
