There is a great greek restaurant south of that area, maybe 3 miles or so on ocean drive in Hollywood, called taverna opa. The food is spectacular and very reasonable. also, it's very loud and if you are female, you may be enticed to dance on a table with one of the waiters.
also, there is royal india, one of the best in the area. it's west of the airport, maybe 4 miles on griffin which I think is where your hotel is.
Both of these places are very good. Ft lauderdale riverwalk is a dive tourist trap that's slated to be demolished because no one goes there.

i'm not sure how far it is from the airport, but my favorite place to go when in ft lauderdale is the Mai Kai. it's a polynesian restaurant, food is really good, they have a beautiful tiki garden and the floor show was as good as what i saw in hawaii.

GO to Downtown... or Ft. Lauderdale Beach, or you can check out RIverwalk...They have lot's of bars and restaurants...
