It depends on what you're interested in. This usually helps me: Think about a class you have already taken. Then think about a subject you covered that you would like to know more about.
I'm interested in the history of obscure and ordinary things. Sometimes things like the ballpoint pen or canned food have a rich history. Think of something on your desk and wonder where it came from. Then, find out!

Do a historical report on how much WW2 was shortened by the use of atomic weapons. Do not forget to include how much higher the death toll would have been had they not been used.
