I have been promised so much over the years, but never see it.

Why should imcompetence ever be accepted?

Because of people like that, I have adopted a policy of not getting my hopes up. Despite a friend's claim to do something nice for me.... I try to save my reaction until the 'check is cashed' so to speak.

People who promise things and don't back it up deserve to be beat severely haha because come on look at the negative effects it has on a person... when as a child daddy promises to attend your dance or your soccer game or whatever.... and he doesn't show.... you are heartbroken! You can't TRUST him... and in any relationship, trust is key!

Instead, as a society we put our trust in people who don't back up their promises, and we give them government offices.

I have three grown up children and i can honestly say i have never promised them something and not delivered.I always say to them if you cant keep the promise dont make it.Iwas let down with promises when i was a child and my promise to my self was if i have my own children i would never break a promise or let them down. Its very hard for some people but to me if i make it i mean it .I am much older now but i havnt broke a promise.

It should be accepted that there are people who do that. But, if you don't like that particular behavior, then you shouldn't be around them.

People will do things that they find no issue with, and people will do things even if they DO find issues with it. You yourself have to decide if this is acceptable behavior for yourself and then decide if you are willing to accept it in the people around you.

Cases in point:

I don't promise anything I can't deliver.

However, there are people around me that *do* promise things they can't deliver. The difference is that I *know* that these people can't be depended upon and therefore I don't plan them following through. They have other traits that I find endearing and therefore I'm able to be friends with them. I also be careful to make sure that I have backup plans for when they flake out and I also don't give them anything.

It all depends on what you feel is acceptable. Keep in mind though that Life happens and sometimes people promise something and they have every intention of delivering it but circumstances outside their control keep them from delivering.

It should never be accepted. A person should be true to their word. I NEVER promise my daughter anything I can't deliver. A promise without follow-through shows a complete lack of integrity and character.

i think or hope that for the most part people are sincere when they make the promise. sometimes things can change and the promise is broken. but there are those who make promises to make themselves look good. bolsters their ego but never bothers them when the promise is broken. very insincere persons of this caliber are best stayed away from. a person of honour and integrity would keep their promise no matter what stood in their way. do this for yourself.

No not really its just human.

As a rule i stick to anything i promise, always if my kids are involved.
However, other things I might agree to when i've had a couple of beers, to me do not count as promises.

You see all the best of intentions can change when our lives change, and unforeseen events cant be anticipated. I would not adhere to some code of stupid honour when keeping a commitment becomes difficult for me, I answer only to my kids and God.

Personally i hate that as i always try to keep my word but if someone does this consistently, then the next time they promise you something, you won't be holding your breath

Just know that when they say something, that they don't really mean it,then you will be ok when they don't come through.
I know someone like this, and so many different times, she would suggest something and then not come through.
And then again,I never planned anything serious cause I knew that she wouldn't come through.
Only then could she see the error of her ways.
They are best left not to depend on.

I can honestly say that people who don't keep their word really wind me up, i always stick to my word but i realise that we are all different and i tend to ignore/take with a pinch of salt anything these people say.
I don't think they have anything wrong with them i just think they tell you what they think you want to hear without thinking as to whether they can deliver their promises

I think yes because there are people who will never say no also when they know they won't be able to do it. Others will only promise to show off that they have even when they own nothing.Don't believe everything you hear.
