Why do women scream? why are things the way are? Its just how it is I'm afraid. Have u thought how scary it would be if men screamed instead? Don't even want to think about it.

The scream was originally evolved as a call for assistance.

Early in human evolution, the argument goes, men foraged far afield for food, while women stayed at home and developed agriculture by planting seeds near their home, it being an eminently sensible idea.

So that frequently meant that men would often be some distance away, out of direct line of sight of the settlement, with women looking after the home and children, who were allowed to wander, but not too far.

If something threatened the community, like a roaming predator, the woman would be responsible for gathering the children together and getting them to safety. She'd need to alert the foraging menfolk and alert the other women and children. The most effective way was to holler.

Over time, the sound of the woman's scream became associated with fear in general; rather than performing its evolutionary function, being the human alarm call, it simply became the shrill cry of the maid who discovers the murder victim just before the break for station identification. B movies and early Doctor Who episodes wouldn't be B movies without at least one gratuitous female scream.

Nonetheless, a scream is still an effective way of galvanising action, even if the emergency is something like a spider in a bath.

The evidence for the development of screaming as alarm call is clear and obvious. A pragmatic child or woman who can take care of a problem by herself never screams. I've never heard of female Homicide detectives screaming and swooning when they see dead bodies. I can pretty much imagine they also won't scream at the sight of spiders, either.

Actually, I do tend to prefer women to be more pragmatic and liberated; one product of the Sixties this old skool veteran of life can quite happily live with. It's nowadays cool not to scream.

My girlfriend 'meiws' (if that's the right word!), sounding something like a cat.

I had one girlfriend who never uttered a sound, but went as ridged as a board when she came - and then either fainted or went to sleep - straight away.

Another girlfriend wanted to 'talk' the whole time - right through to the end. And another who made sounds something like a steam train ...masses of heavy breathing, as it were.

Others have again been different. The only 'screamer' l ever encountered was in Ireland. l HAD to call the front desk (sorry, but) of our hotel at about 2am to complain about her and her companion in the room above hours. They were at it like rabbits ...and no, I wasn't jealous, just bloody tired after having to deal with the death of my wife's mother - and all that this had entailed.

All I WANTED was to sleep.

Sash..

it's the primal sex drive.normally, one tend to associate more screaming to women than to men because women are more open and in touch with their feelings. Whereas men tend to be less talkative and quiet. Besides women's vocal cords and larynx allows her to.

Why does butter melt and an egg firm up on the same fire ?
Why does the dog bark and the cow mew ?
It would be very boring if we all made the same noise or music.
