We should have sent 200,000 troops to Afghanistan, captured Bin Laden & put him on trial (hopefully followed by finding him guilty & executing him).
But we split our effort & failed in Afghanistan & in Iraq & failed to improve the security of our nation. BUt we DID lose plenty of the rights we thought were guaranteed in The Constitution.
NOTE : having grown up in England (with the IRA terrorist threat), before coming to the USA in 1993 (ad becoming a US citizen on 02/13/04), I am surprised to find we are STILL adjusting as a nation, to this new terrorist threat - we have a long way to go.

1. There are more terrorists today wising to attack the US then there were 5 years ago.
2. We haven't caught Bin Laden.
3. We haven't eliminated Al Queda
4. We haven't established a stable government in Afganistan.
5. We haven't established a stable government in Iraq.
6. Gas prices are up.
7. Support for US foreign policy is down worldwide.
8. We've spent hundreds of billions of dollars, increasing the national debt and saddling our kids with the lifelong burden of paying it off.
9. We have eroded civil rights in the US.
10. Iran and North Korea are quickly developing nuclear technology.
11. Guantano Bay it is a modern day "gulag" which disgraces the US worldwide.
The only positive is that we have not allowed another attack on US soil, but the cost has been very high. So, no I'm not satisfied.
Hindsight is 20/20, but Iraq has been a collosal mistake. Saddam may have been brutal, but Iraq wasn't a terrorist state and he would have kept it that way. We should have spent all our time and money finding Bin Laden, stabilizing Afganistan, and shoring up true worldwide support against terrorism.

What has been done? All I've seen is more and more innocent people dying, arguing over a monument, a lot of self pity and, no justice, in 5 years. 9/11 only lasted ONE DAY ... Lebanon endured bombardment for a month!
My ancesters were indigenous to Turtle Island (The U.S.) and all I can say is, "What comes around goes around."

No the US gave up the real search for Osama and his Al Qaeda band in order to pursue an unrelated war against Sadaam based on grievances from the early 1990's. Here is an article about the search for bin Laden that appeared in yesterday's Washington Post.
“Bin Laden Trail Stone Cold” http://www.washingtonpost.com/wp-dyn/content/article/2006/09/09/AR2006090901105.html
And here’s another one from today's Washington Post "Anbar Province Is Lost Politically, Marine Analyst Says. http://www.washingtonpost.com/wp-dyn/content/article/2006/09/10/AR2006091001204.html
“The chief of intelligence for the Marine Corps in Iraq recently filed an unusual secret report concluding that the prospects for securing that country's western Anbar province are dim and that there is almost nothing the U.S. military can do to improve the political and social situation there, said several military officers and intelligence officials familiar with its contents.”
