to the floor. Sometimes the car takes off with my foot still on the pettle. It seems i need to pump the brakes all the time. I had the brakes checked and the mechanic said the brakes were fine. Im not sure if the pettle needs to be raised or not.

A rear axle defiency maybe? Try force powering the torque by alternating your axle gauge.

If there are no visible leaks in the brake system and you are not loosing brake fluid I would say that you need a new brake master cylinder. The fluid is bypassing inside the unit and you are loosing pressure allowing the car to move when the brakes are applied. If you are having to replace fluid then you have an external leak which you mechanic should have found. Then again he should have diagnosed the master cylinder too. Maybe a new mechanic is in your future along with the new master cylinder. If he couldn't find it maybe he shouldn't be the one to fix it?

You could have a bad booster and or vacume leak on the booster
You may have a bad brake cylinder
You could have air in the lines.
Bleed the brakes.

Check your brake fluid level. Your brakes also may need to be bleed.
