The best routes to take are to research the process of starting a business as well as the industry you're interested in.

I recommend checking out the SBA, Entrepreneur, The Start Up Journal & Nolo. All 4 are great informational resources for the new/small business owner. I posted links for you in the source box.

Research, research, research – this cannot be stressed enough. Read as much as you can. Here are some book titles that are relevant:

* Starting an Online Business For Dummies, 4th Edition by Greg Holden
* How to Start and Maintain A Successful Online Business by Kelly Thornton
* The Complete E-Commerce Book: Design, Build, and Maintain a Successful Web-Based Business by Janice Reynolds

There are plenty of free informational resources out there. Check the source box for links to articles.

Hope that helps! I wish you much success & happiness in all your ventures!

If you are just starting out, try Paypal. That way you don't have to pay a set up fee for merchant account with a bank. Paypal will charge you a fee, but it's the same as what the normal CC companies would charge you.

Since you did not specify what kind of business you wanted to start, there is no way to answer your question. As to your second question, you can use any collection methods your payment processing company supports (credit cards, debit cards, electronic checks, etc.)

Best bet would be using www.actinic.com - they have pre-made templates and allow access to HTML so you can customise it to the max. On top of that you can get SSL (secure payment in basic terms) which can be setup to go straight into your account.

The basic package is around £350 in the UK, but dont know about the USA. They cover many countries and definitely recommended.
