I'm a courier and use a sat-nav. Mine is placed in the center of the windscreen towards the dashboard(bottom of the windscreen in the middle). As long as it is placed in such a way as not to obstruct your vision, you will be perfectly safe. As regards the bluetooth accessory, this is broadcast. So you don't have to do anything apart from listen!...Just like having a handsfree kit!
Most sat-navs(mine included), will broadcast the directions to travel, it'll tell you by voice command. I only glance at my sat-nav unit when i need clarification of a particular confusing stretch of road. All perfectly safe!
Don't believe all that you read about sat-navs, you have to have some common sense whenever going on the roads.
They are good if used correctly. But please remember that these things are an aid to driving, they are not God. They do make mistakes. Or you may have put the incorrect information in!
Be safe when using any driving gadget.

Nav Sats aren't dangerous ... Sat Navs might be!
You only have to take your eyes off the road to set the things - BEFORE you even set off! They can talk to you you know!

No you set your destination on your sat nav before you start your journey and are then given verbal directions. So its no more dangerous than listening to the radio, and less dangerous than someone trying to change a cd whilst driving

Not really as they can tell you where to go as well as show you maps so there's no need to take your eyes off the road, mobile phones are worse as you get actively involved in a conversation which can be distracting.
