I must admit, I do agree with you and I'm not even American!!You may also hear people, who, when a problem occurs somewhere in the world say,"What is America going to do about it"!! These, the same people who criticise America!! Unfortunately I hear it quite often!! Its understandable how you feel today,my thoughts are with you.
For clk4cb, I certainly do not hate you!! Karen (UK)

Why are we involved in the world? Because we are part of the world. It cost us $20,000 to kill each enemy soldier in Vietnam.
We could have bought the solder and his whole family for about
$5,000. Why blame 9/11 on our policies,Our CIA trains men to be terrorist. If we had treated with Cuba in a different way, they might have been the Fifty First State. When we do underhanded
trick the manipulate other countries we just make everyone miss-trust us. Foreign ad is straight forward.

If we isolate ourselves from the rest of the world. we will bring more problems and animosity on ourselves. There is a great book Warfare in the 21st Century, I think it is Jeremy Brown. The idea is that it links all the conflicts we have had since WWII with the economies in those countries. It is interesting to see that countries with no ties to the US economy seem to have problems with the US. Jealousy is a big factor and unifier when it comes to conflict. Third world countries seem to blame us for their shortcomings. Do we have a responsibilty to poor countries to try to help them? Is not giving aid an act of war? Remember Japan attacked us for "taking our ball and going home."

Yes we should. Let Bono pick up the tab.
We don't get credit anyway. All the food aid we send gets UN stickers put on it. Same thing probably goes for a lot of the money.
We should mind our own business, and take care of our own.

I see lots of trite answers, but the fact is that if we were to take our ball and go home, we would all be screaming at the top of our lungs for stuff. 99% of our stuff comes from other countries because we want it all and we don't want to pay the price it would cost if we made this stuff at home. So we shell out big bucks to other countries to protect this massive consumerism we've all bought into. We're Americans---we want, want, want, want, and want more, more, more, more, and more. This is what's leading to the crumble of our society; this is what's destroying the family; and this is why we can't take our ball and go home.

And do what...improve our schools? Give the working poor and middle class health care? Increase law enforcement? Clean our environment? Decrease our taxes?
Are you taking crazy pills? ( sarcasm)
So easy to solve the worlds "problems" and ignore our own....sad
