According to Islamic Law (Shariah), a muslim man can marry a woman if she isn't Muslim BUT her people has to be the People of the Book (i.e. Christian or Jewish).

She would not be required to change her religion, BUT any children of that marriage HAVE to be raised as muslims.

As far as i know, Muslim women cannot marry non-Muslim men. The reason for this is because it would be generally expected that her children be raised in the religion of the father - and that's something that is not encouraged in Islam (and therefore forbidden).

Most countries allow these marriages, but i think that muslim countries (e.g. like Malaysia) would discourage them and insist that the non-Muslim party convert to Islam to render the marriage "valid".

The United States is probably one of the countries where you can do it.
However, do remember that the Muslim religion expects you to convert while the Christian religion doesn't when you marry.
Also, if married to a Muslim, you will have to change your name to a Muslim name.
If you both aren't religious, then don't worry. I do urge you to talk about what religion your child (or children) will embrace. This is am important question for you both to sort out before you get married.
Other questions are which Muslim and Christian holidays are going to be observed during your marriage. If your partner is Muslim, is she going to observe Ramadan, or vice versa? Will you follow along faithfully?
Lots to think about when you combine marriage of different faiths.

a muslim man can marry a christian woman but if you want to have a christian man marry a muslim woman, you might run into some problems there. you won't be able to have a muslim religious marriage in that case, but in many places they would not prevent you from having a civil ceremony in court or city hall. where do you live?
