I have been told by my obgyn that it IS SAFE. The only time you should refrain is if you are bleeding (in which case you should be at the hospital) or if your water has broken. A woman can technically lose her mucus plug over a course of weeks - or it can happen more spontaneously in a day. And it is not an indicator that labor will begin right away, it could still be 2 weeks before the onset of labor. Just be hygienically coscious (as you should anyway). Good luck!

Sex After Losing Mucus Plug

Of course!!! All your mucus plug suggests is that you are dilating. As long as your membranes haven't ruptured, sex is and should remain safe for you and the baby. There is still about 3 inches of vaginal canal and about 2-3 more inches of amniotic fluid between a penis and the baby. With my first child, I lost my plug at 27 weeks and was 3 cm dilated before that ever happened. My doctor told us that sex would not be a problem until after my membranes ruptured and the night I delivered; the doctor had to rupture the sack for us.

yea I don't know why those stupid women are freaking out. But I know you can have sex, but they do advise you not to because of infection. same with pools. congrats on the baby!!! I can't wait for mine! you seem like a great guy! Congrats again! GLEEKLUV you're so dumb. losing your plug does not mean she needs to hurry to the hospital I don't care where you worked. If she isn't dilated to more then a 2 or 3 they will just send her home. why freak out?

I lost my mucus plug weeks ago and my doctor recommends sex to me for the benefit of the prostaglandins in semen. So yes its okay. You just cant have sex if your water breaks. Cause then you would run the risk of infection. The semen is beneficial to ripen your cervix and the orgasm brings on oxytocin which brings on contractions. Of course obstain from sex if you are not at term and dont want to help bring on labor. :)

Yes, assuming there's no other reason not to be having sex it is ok. Sex is ok unless your water breaks. After that it is unsafe because of the risk of infection. Even if your cervix is dilating, as a long as your water isn't broken you're fine...

Current thinking is that you can have sex, as long as it's comfortable for you and your partner, until your water breaks. At that point, there is no protection from infection for the baby and therefore you do not want to introduce foreign bodies.

yes you can... just because you loose your mucuse plug doesn't mean you will have you baby right away... it could be a day or two to a few... you can also still take baths... but when your water breaks your not suppost to have sex or take baths... it can couse an infection!
