I am a widow with four kids. The oldest is EXTREMELY rebellious, and another child is mildy autistic. I have a decent job (with a college degree), but am in financial ruin due to trying to raise four kids alone, and having bills left over from my marriage. My home is in disrepair, and I cannot afford to fix it up appropriately. I have NO family (long story) and my children's fathers' family helps very little! I have gained 50 pounds since my spouse's death. On the other hand, we are all healthy (thank God). I am a member of some support groups for parents of autistic children, but is there a support group for single moms who are at the end of the rope? I need some hope, and just don't see the light at the end of the tunnel. Can anyone give me advice? I feel like such an utter failure as a parent (how I will get through the next year or two with my rebellious teen, I don't know), I am a financial failure, and have no joy in my life tending to these kids 24/7.

i know this sound corny, but if u not a church goer, do start. i can't see any other avenues 4 u. u need to join a church with SMALL SUPPORT GROUP & COMMUNITY SERVICES PROGRAMMES. just ask.
small group usually meet in someone house like once a week. will give u emotional & physical support, they can pray 4 u, lighten your work load, pick your kids up, provide fatherly figure to your kids, give u a break from the kids. help uw with chores, be a friend, teach your kid to be more helpful & reponsible, GIVE U HOPE etc , etc tell the church leader your situation & they will introduce a group that can be of help.
community service programme can help with food, shelter & clothing & sometime even money loans.
do try it, u got nothing to lose anyway.
be encouraged, u are faithful, reponsible & a good mother. i pray & hope all work well with u. be blessed & take care. peace, lady

1 thumb up to cheer u up

Can you start a small business of your own?
Can you get help from a school feeding programme for the children?
Can you talk to your political counselor to hear about agencies which helps in such situation?
Do you know anything about the Red Cross in your area? They may be able to help.
I have something to say to you: You are not a failure as a parent. You are just a person who meets on hard times. Things will change in the future.
Do you go to any church? Have you presented the situation to any church group?
I do not know which area you are living in so I cannot be anymore specific but try to manage the little that you have as much as possible and build some faith in God. Hope at least one of these work.

I feel sad reading your post. Are you involved in church? Do you have any friends who would come over and watch your kids for a few hours each week to give you a break? Perhaps you could take to your teen's school counselor to get some help with behavior. You would feel much better if you lost the weight. It is hard, but you can do it. First of all, find time in your day to exercise at least thirty minutes. All of us have the same amount of time, it's just using it wisely. If you watch tv, don't! Next, cut out the junk food and try to eat more healthy food. I counted calories to lose weight, along with exercising almost every day. It was hard, but once I got into the habit, it felt natural.
Is it possible you would qualify for any public assistance? Sometime, Health and Welfare has case workers who can help you with life issues. Good Luck!

All I can offer is Don't sweat the small stuff and it's all small stuff. Things will get better. The rebellious teens need a wake up call.....kick them out, send them to boot camp but get some distance from them You will be useless if you have a breakdown. Autism is a workable disability, there are thousands of groups and day programs that maybe you can ask the government to help. Everything is fixable, you need to look after yourself also!!!!

Take a break and look at what is really troubling you the most. Is it that you're alone with no one to help or that everything is getting to you? Solve one problem at a time. If you can kill two or three birds with one stone but...take it easy, you're only human. Look at the easiest problem to solve and solve it. Also be very honest with yourself if you're part of the problem then solve what you're responsible for then deal with the rest. Did I mention take a break?..leave the kids with a trusted friend or your children's father's family even for a few hours, treat yourself to a well deserved retreat.

why not get the kids sat down and explain the situation to them, and ask them to help out, or there will be no chance of getting through this situation without their help....
