We haven't solved our terrorism issue yet, we are , since a couple of month in a state of "peace" It means that ETA (the spanish terrorist group) have promised to stop their attack while our governement is negociating with them to free the arrested terrorist, they are also negociating the autonomy of the basq region etc....Eta is an illegal political party and the gvnt is speaking with them !!!

By the way in europe we also had IRA in Ireland, CAC in Italy....(for the ones that are not aware of our terrorism history)

What do they know? The Americans live in a bubble. They talk about the body count, and the scale of the atrocity, but the painful truth is that they live in a safe world with cable TV and beer.

I was interested when people talked about it like it was as if things were happening in a movie or a film. That's when you get the whole idea of reality in the American world; it's so distorted that they cannot actually -cope- with the idea of being attacked. They relate to tragedy as if it happened in fiction.

Like it or not, I think the Americans are living in a fantasy world. They don't have a real sense of the outside world at all. How many of them even bother to have a passport? This tragedy is pure self-indulgence- they haven't bothered to get over it, start fresh, think new, try new things, work on new ideas. Instead they seek revenge in - well, blatantly made-up enemies.

No, of course the US isn't the only country that has suffered terrorism. They don't have to put up with it on a daily basis. If they did, maybe they'd wake up a little to what terrorism and crusades really mean - nothing at all when you're surrounded by the dead.

We certainly know that Spain has been the victims of terror, but its longer than only 20 years if you include the decades of Basque separatist acts of terror.

Since the 1970's Europe, especially France, Spain and Italy have been victims of Islamic fanatics. The US had been victims but usually overseas, at the embassies or near military installations.

The US also suffered sporadic terror events beginning in the 1970's but aside from a few random acts they were mostly against non-citizen targets, although quite a few citizens died.

The thing that sets 9/11 apart in the US is the large scale planned assault that took place. Instead of just a random bomb being detonated this involved the hijacking of 4 jumbo jets with civilians on board, and using them as explosive laden battering rams to commit these acts. Striking the Pentagon alone may not have elicited such a strong emotion, but by striking the WTC, a huge office comples with more that 28,000 employees the terrorists were not just going for a civilian target, but one that would cause tremendous civilian casualities. As it was 2,800 people died and that was a mind numbing total for the first truly orchestrated terrorist attack on US soil.

The events of 9/11 made Americans realize that terrorism at home was real and that sweeping behavioral and cultural changes would be necessary to counter these acts and provide as much security against repeated attacks as possible.

If you ask a American when WWII started they will tell you 1941
the rest of the world will say 1938. We have a tough time try trying to figure out are problems without looking at the world around us. Right now the biggest threat to our freedom is not
Middle East terrorist but Washington politicians and most American don't even realist that.

No, people in US are not really aware that Europe has handled terrorism incidents for 20 or more years. Perhaps if they were, they'd realize there are tactics other than bombing and invading other countries that can be used to combat terrorism.

Blame it on the press.
They know that NEGATIVE news sells.
Especially if it happens in the US.

Interesting, the croc-guy from Australia that got killed. Our local paper mentioned it, with his photo, on page 3 of the paper, 5 days after his death. Born in America? He would be on the front page the next day!

Our press tells us what they want us to know. I am sorry that terrorism exists. I hate what happened here as well as what happens all over the world due to terrorist. I am sorry for your losses as well.
