I know it is a little early now but I have a two month old and was wondering when do you start to add cereal to your babies formula. I know this will help him sleep through the night as well???

It will, but it will also make the baby gain weight more quickly. Most babies sleep through the night around 5-6 months. Are you using it just to get the baby to sleep through the night, or is the baby hungry and the formula is not enough? You may want to check with your pediatrician on this one. I didn't introduce cereal until my daughter was about 7-8 months, but even at 3yrs old she is still a very light eater, so what I did may not work for you. Congrats on the baby!!!

My little girl with be 3 months on the 21st, and I started her on cereal about 2 weeks ago. I only put it in her formula at night time though, the first feeding before bed, and then the following feeding. I origanally started this because the dr thought she had acid reflux. I continued it for about a week, and now im afraid she has gotten used to the extra fillingness (is that a word? ha!) so I dont want to take it away from her now.

I would also call the pediatrician and ask what they would recommend.

My baby is four months so I have been researching this recently. From what I read and talked to my doctor about, here is when most recommend starting cereal:

1. Baby has doubled birth weight.
2. Baby weighs at least 13 pounds.
3. Baby is drinking at least 32 oz. a day and still seems hungry.

Also, the reason that babies usually start cereal is because their iron stores have been depleted if they are breastfeeding. However, formula fed babies get iron supplements in their formula. So, babies who are breastfed typically need to start cereal before formula fed babies.

My 4 month old is small, only 10 pounds, and sleeps well, so we have decided to wait.

Make sure you talk to your doctor because every baby's situation is different!

I started with cereal FROM THE SPOON...at 3 weeks old...with ALL my children! ANd they all slept through the night with full bellies...just put enough formula mixed with the rice cereal until it's almost a runny soup...but only a table spoon of cereal until they get used to it...

Those of you who wish to be negative about doing the above..I got sleep and all my children are healthy and happy!! And I got sleep by the time they were about a month or 2 old...

The normal age to give baby cereal is around 4 months but that is if he is ready for it. Your doctor should let you know when it is ok. You should never put cereal in a bottle because it is bad for babies teeth even if he has none right now. It is called baby bottle mouth. If you have any questions about that call your doctor.

I have 2 daughters at the age of 8yrs and 6yrs. Both started taking cereal with formula when they were just 2 months old. This will help them to have longer sleep as everybody knows that it is best if baby can rest/sleep more. You can start to introduce porridge when your baby is 4 months old but of course you must make sure you cook your porridge in the correct way (cook the porridge in the slow cooker for hours till soft enough)(best if we can have the sufficient ingredients like carrots, potato and fish).

At my pediatricians go ahead, I did start my son with a tiny bit of cereal because he just wasn't getting full enough. He was eating constantly. It really doesn't take very much either. If you have issues with feeding, then you do what you have to do.
I had problems breastfeeding and ended up suddenly not producing milk, and had to use formula. It wasn't too long before my son needed a little heavier stuff in his tummy ,and the rice cereal worked perfectly. It did help him sleep better. I just kept the amount to a minimum, so it wouldn't be too hard on his tummy. I would put in a little under a teaspoon in 5 oz of formula. You can try even less to begin with since its going to be a bit of a change in his diet, and you want any transistion that early to be as easy as possible. But check with your pediatrician first before doing that. If he is having a weight problem, then they will encourage it. But if he continues eating large amounts or eating frequently, try a tiny bit of cereal and see how he does on it.
Just watch for any changes in his skin. (rashes..etc)
Good luck!

At about four monthes you can start RICE cereal the least likely to cause alergy related problems. But don't give in a bottle or infant feeder use a bowl and a spoon as to help introduce these foriegn objects and prevent against tooth decay. Good luck.

I have 2 children, 1 is 4yrs old and the other is 13 months old. I started both of them on cereal at 6 weeks old because they were always crying and hungry. As soon as I put them on cereal they started going 4 to 6 hours between feedings and 8 hours at night. I do not care what any pediatrician says about v\feeding your kids, you know your child better than anyone else. If you think it will help, then I say go for it.
