I have received numerous emails under numerous names/accounts (I blocked all of them), also phone messages and, now, a birthday gift I had given before the break-up was left at my door. The break-up was ten months ago. I have initiated no contact in that time. Efforts to get me to respond have been going on for about four months. I thought ignoring was the best option, but the behavior seems to be escalating in invasiveness. The person involved has some mental health issues, specifically borderline personality.

if plausible, I would move away and not let him know my new address (and/or job) and phone. And warn all mutual friends to not tell him. E-mail can be ignored, and if after explicit requests any of your friends tell him, you will know what to do. (I know moving away is not quite like ignoring, it's a lot of work, but... I wouldn't want any ex of mine to keep nagging me (and physically getting near my flat, with or without me inside).

Even if you do not want to get out a full restraining order, get the police to give the person a good lecture with you standing by to make sure the person sees that you are actually initiating this action. And then say it in simple but plain speech, the next time this happen I will have you locked up.

GO to the police and get an oreder of protection. Show them emails, the gift, tell them you are being harassed. Tell them to hold the gift until he picks it up at the police station.

I was told by my ex. that a move was in order-
change your e-mail address.
no one wants to go to the extent of changing his/her name, job, home address so,
try this:
set him/her up.
I know it sounds mean (to some one you were to set him/her up with)- but it is usually the only way-
the person has to find some one new.
...you will then become a distant memory
